Excess Baggage Gulf to India? Send Extra Luggage Instead

Every Gulf-to-India trip ends the same way: a suitcase that will not close, a luggage scale that reads 31 kg, and a decision nobody enjoys. Pay the excess baggage fee, leave the gifts behind, or start pulling things out at the check-in counter.

The short version Excess baggage from the Gulf to India is charged per kilo, and the bill grows fast when you are carrying Diwali gifts, wedding shopping or a long stay's worth of belongings. ParcelGo's Carry no Baggage service lets you book those extra kilos as a separate shipment instead, with online pricing in three weight slabs (up to 10, 23 and 46 kg), Surface or Air, payable in USD or INR. On the maths in this guide, Surface is where the big savings are, and the planner and calculator below show you exactly where the line falls for your load.

The GCC–India corridor, by the numbers

Few travel corridors in the world are as busy, or as emotionally loaded, as the one between the Gulf and India. Ministry of External Affairs data for 2025–26, through March 2026, puts roughly 9.95 million Indian nationals across the six GCC countries. Every one of them has a home to go back to, and most have a family waiting with a list of requests.

UAE4.33 M
Saudi Arabia2.75 M
Kuwait1.06 M
Qatar0.83 M
Oman0.68 M
Bahrain0.32 M

Indian nationals by GCC country, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, 2025–26 through March 2026. Figures rounded.

Not all of them fly home at once, of course. But the peaks are predictable: Diwali, wedding season, school holidays, and the long summer break. Those are exactly the weeks when suitcases are fullest and airline excess baggage counters are busiest.

Why the last 10 kg cost the most

A standard checked-baggage allowance is generous until you start shopping. Then it is not. Gifts for parents, siblings, nephews and neighbours. Silk sarees for a cousin's wedding. Toys, chocolates, gadgets, the good perfume nobody at home can find. Each item feels small. Together they are 15 or 20 kg you did not plan for.

Airlines usually price the overflow per kilo, and the rate depends on the carrier, route, fare class and season, so always check yours. For the comparisons in this guide we use ₹650 per kg as an airline benchmark, the same figure ParcelGo's own calculator uses. At that rate, 23 extra kilos come to ₹14,950 and 46 extra kilos to ₹29,900. That is a lot of money to pay for the privilege of carrying sarees.

The trap is psychological as much as financial. Excess baggage is a decision you are forced to make at the airport, tired, with a queue behind you and a flight to catch. Booking the overflow separately moves the decision to your living room a week earlier, when you can weigh things calmly and compare your options.

Who ends up with too much luggage

The family gift-giver

Sweets, clothes, toys, electronics and presents for everyone from parents to cousins can quickly turn one suitcase into three.

The festive and wedding shopper

Diwali outfits, silk sarees, bridal wear and wedding gifts collected over weeks eat through your allowance before you have packed a single shirt.

The long-stay traveller

Heading home for the summer, an extended break or a permanent return? A normal flight allowance was never designed for that.

If you recognise yourself in any of these, the idea is simple. What you need on the flight travels with you. Eligible items you do not need in your hands can travel as a separate shipment to the address you choose in India.

Interactive: plan your gift load

Most people underestimate what their extras weigh. Use the planner to add up what you would like to send. The weights are rough planning averages, so weigh your real items at home before you book.

What would you actually save?

Carry no Baggage online pricing covers up to 46 kg. Above that, ParcelGo gives a custom quote.

The honest maths: when sending is not worth it

Here is the pricing laid out plainly, using the ₹650/kg benchmark. We are including the cases where ParcelGo does not win, because a comparison that only shows the good news is not much use to you.

WeightAirline @ ₹650/kgParcelGo SurfaceParcelGo Air
Up to 10 kg₹6,500₹6,500 (break-even)₹10,000 (₹3,500 more)
Up to 23 kg₹14,950₹7,600 (save ₹7,350, 49%)₹14,200 (save ₹750, 5%)
Up to 46 kg₹29,900₹14,200 (save ₹15,700, 53%)₹22,200 (save ₹7,700, 26%)

Three things stand out:

  • The sweet spot is 23 to 46 kg by Surface. That works out to roughly ₹309 to ₹330 per kilo, against ₹650 for the airline benchmark. Big festive hauls and long-stay moves live here.
  • Small loads gain little on price. At 10 kg, Surface is level with the benchmark and Air costs more. The reasons to send a small parcel are convenience, not money: you keep a lighter bag and avoid the check-in-counter scramble.
  • Air is a speed choice. It is the better option when the items must reach India quickly. For a full slab it can still undercut the airline benchmark, but the gap narrows at 23 kg.

So the rule of thumb is: if what you want to send is under 10 kg, weigh convenience against cost. If it is 20 kg or more, look hard at Surface.

How Carry no Baggage works

1 · Book online

Enter your GCC country and city or airport, your India delivery city and PIN, and your airline, flight number and travel date. Pick a weight slab and Surface or Air, then choose USD or INR.

2 · Hand over

After booking you receive the handover instructions for your service. Your shipment is prepared and enters the ParcelGo delivery process.

3 · Fly lighter

You travel without every extra item in your suitcase. Your shipment continues to its Indian destination, and tracking is available once it is booked and accepted.

The booking form is deliberately practical. It captures your route, your flight details, what you are sending, the number of pieces, and the recipient's full address, PIN code, name and phone number in India. Online bookings need at least 24 hours' notice. If something is more urgent than that, call the help desk instead of booking online.

Connecting flights and bags for someone else

Excess weight is not the only reason to hand a bag over. Two situations come up again and again with international travellers landing in India.

The connecting domestic flight

Say you fly Dubai to Hyderabad and then on to Bengaluru. Your international ticket may allow more baggage than the domestic leg does, so a bag that was fine from Dubai suddenly is not fine from Hyderabad. Forwarding it separately means the domestic leg no longer decides what you can bring.

A bag that is not going where you are going

Suppose you are carrying a bag for a relative who lives in Karimnagar, but your own trip ends in Bengaluru. Instead of rerouting yourself or asking someone to collect it, the bag can be booked to its real destination, addressed either to you or to a third-party recipient.

One practical boundary: for airport handovers, the ParcelGo team works at the arrival hall entrance. They do not enter check-in, security or baggage claim, so you clear baggage claim yourself first. Your handover details are confirmed when you book.

Paying from the Gulf: USD, INR, cards and UPI

You can pay in USD or INR, using any credit or debit card. UPI payments are also accepted. If your card was issued in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain or Kuwait, choose USD.

Before you click pay, make sure international or online transactions are switched on in your bank's mobile app, and keep your phone nearby. Your bank may send a 3D-Secure OTP to confirm the payment. Ten minutes of preparation here saves a declined-card headache later.

What you cannot send

Not everything can be shipped. Prohibited and restricted items, customs requirements, destination rules, weight limits and service conditions all apply, and some items need special documentation. Shipments above 46 kg need a custom quote. You can reach ParcelGo at +91 89763-23555. If you are unsure whether something is eligible, describe it when you request your quote and the team will advise you before you pay.
