Why I built a membership, not another insurance product
By Parashar Pandya | Founder, ParcelGo Global
Regular readers of this newsletter know I usually write about the economics of lost property recovery—claim volumes, recovery windows, and why airports underinvest in this category.
Today's issue is different.
Today we launched ParcelGo Membership.
The Problem with "Coverage"
When we first scoped this product, the obvious move was to bundle it with travel insurance. Everyone does it.
Every travel platform, every credit card, and every online travel agency has some version of a travel insurance add-on quietly collecting premiums against events that, statistically, mostly don't happen.
But insurance is reactive.
It pays you back after something goes wrong.
It doesn't recover your bag.
It doesn't get your parcel to Delhi by morning.
It doesn't collect the suitcase you don't want to drag down two flights of stairs.
Insurance compensates you after failure. It rarely prevents the failure or resolves it quickly.
The industry data explains why this matters.
SITA's 2026 Baggage IT Insights Report estimates the global cost of mishandled baggage at approximately $6.3 billion annually, despite a 23% year-over-year improvement in mishandling rates. Every mishandled bag now costs airlines an estimated $260 on average.
Airlines absorb that cost.
Insurers price around it.
But almost none of that investment is designed for the traveler standing at the airport wondering:
"What happens now?"
That gap—between what airlines optimize for and what travelers actually need—is the reason ParcelGo exists.
What Travelers Actually Told Us
ParcelGo Membership wasn't designed in a boardroom.
It was built from hundreds of WhatsApp conversations with Lost & Found customers—real travelers messaging us at 11 PM from airport terminals, anxious and typing in half-sentences.
The pattern became obvious.
No one asked:
- How much will I be compensated?
- How long will my insurance claim take?
- What paperwork do I need?
Instead, everyone asked one simple question:
"Can you just go get it?"
That's a completely different psychological contract.
Insurance promises reimbursement.
ParcelGo promises action.
Customers didn't want another policy.
They wanted someone who could solve the physical problem.
So that's exactly what we built.
Not another insurance product.
An operating relationship.
ParcelGo Membership is an annual subscription built around five travel logistics services:
- Airport Lost & Found Recovery
- Air Express Shipping
- Door-to-Door Baggage Delivery
- International Shipping
- Shopping Bag Delivery
Available across four membership tiers starting from ₹4,990 per year.
Why This Matters Beyond ParcelGo
India still has no unified travel logistics category.
Courier services, baggage forwarding, excess baggage shipping, airport Lost & Found, shopping bag delivery, and airport logistics all exist as disconnected services.
Different operators.
Different apps.
Different pricing.
Different customer experiences.
The scale is enormous.
India's domestic airports handled nearly 167 million passengers during 2025, while FY26 passenger traffic continues to grow strongly according to DGCA.
Every journey creates logistics needs:
- Baggage
- Documents
- Shopping
- Lost belongings
- Urgent shipping
Today, every one of those problems is solved—or not solved—by a completely different vendor.
Meanwhile, aviation has invested heavily in airline-side baggage technology.
- Real-time baggage tracking
- AI-driven routing
- Biometric bag drop
- Digital baggage operations
That's excellent progress.
But it benefits airline operations.
There is still no unified consumer-facing platform travelers can subscribe to.
No equivalent of airline baggage infrastructure designed for passengers.
That's the gap ParcelGo Membership aims to close.
Travel Always Consolidates
The travel industry has consistently rewarded consolidation.
People no longer book flights, hotels, airport transfers, and experiences through unrelated companies if they don't have to.
The same evolution is now happening in travel logistics.
ParcelGo believes the company that earns trust through Lost & Found recovery—the most relationship-driven service in the category—is uniquely positioned to bring every other travel logistics service under one membership.
